Scleroderma

Scleroderma or Systemic Sclerosis (SS) is a type of connective tissue disease. Most patients have skin changes such as thickening or discoloration of the skin. Other typical symptoms include fatigue, joint pain and swelling and muscle pain. Gastrointestinal manifestations are common and can include acid reflux, heartburn, nausea, constipation and diarrhea. Most patients have raynaud's. This is a condition where the fingers and toes turn shades of blue, white or red when exposed to cool temperatures. Treatment for SS is aimed at managing the symptoms. Raynaud's and heartburn should be treated if severe to prevent various complications. All SS patients should be monitored for development of pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, acute kidney disease and cardiac complications.

Choosing Your San Antonio Scleroderma or Systemic Sclerosis Specialist

It's not easy selecting the right doctor who will take the time to understand your particular needs so that they can better help you understand your condition and its treatment. So it is imperative that you ask the right questions:

  • Does your specialist have first-hand experience at serving those most affected by Scleroderma or Systemic Sclerosis?
  • Is your specialist recognized and respected by her peers as an active patient advocate?
  • Is your specialist board certified in both Rheumatology and Internal Medicine?

Dr. Chelsea Clinton has a positive answer for each of these questions. Dr. Clinton's biography attests to her dedication. Inspired by the world-class rheumatologists she worked with at The University of Texas Medical School, Dr. Clinton has dedicated her career to patients who suffer from rheumatologic conditions.
